Health and Wellness

The Council is pleased to announce that we have received a grant from the International Foundation for Chronic Disability (IFCD) to assist in the promotion of health and fitness education for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The mission statement of IFCD is to improve the health of adults, who reside in both community and institutional settings, who have disabilities that result from chronic medical disorders (especially chronic brain disorders), while at the same time ensuring they live satisfying and fulfilling lives, with dignity, respect, and free will.

A collaboration to address the healthcare disparities in the IDD community.

  • Research Driven

The Council and IFCD use the most current evidence-based research to develop new programs and policy advocacy in order to address the needs of adults with IDD in our community.

  • Education

One major goal of this collaboration is to establish relationships with universities, in the hopes of creating meaningful curriculum on adults with IDD, to prepare future professionals in the healthcare field.

  • Data Collection

In order to obtain meaningful data, it will take a collaboration of persons with disabilities themselves, parents, advocates, medical and dental professionals, teachers, medical and dental school research faculty, government agencies, and others responding to this survey.
